[05/22/2007] Sandy Zita
Field Day recently participated in an RGD Ontario "studio crawl" where groups consisting mainly of students toured the offices of four local agencies. In anticipation of the tour, we took the opportunity to give our studio a good sprucing up.
Art Director Geoff Kendall and Production Coordinator Leroy Danclar did a phenomenal job re-organizing our lounge, motivating the rest of us, and filling our walls with both personal and work-related images.
One of the pieces they had in mind was a mosaic wall made up of 54 individual nine inch by nine inch frames. Just one tiny problem though...
What do you put in those frames?
I showed Geoff a coloured mosaic pattern I'd created for something else. He liked it, and so I began to lay out the wall. In the course of doing that, an idea came to me to use a word or short phrase and to craft a micro story to go with it.
I quickly wrote some oddball stories about myself (all true except one) to go with some words I'd chosen and sent the artwork off to Geoff and Andrew for approval. They were on board with it.
Andrew came up with the word STATE. It's open to interpretation: it could be a statement about ourselves, a visual representation of our current state of mind, or even our comment on the current state of affairs.
This will become a monthly rotating installation. Staff members can feature photography, artwork, stories, or anything really. The can STATE whatever they wish.
I’ve attached the artwork for the first installation as a PDF. Use the magnify tool in your PDF reader to read the small type.
Oh... and by the way, you'll have to email me to find out which story isn't true.
