A great tool for understanding human facial expressions from the skull outward, Artnatomy lets you explore the muscles of the face and how they move around the skull to create facial expressions. The slightest, most subtle facial movement can change everything. You can increase or decrease the opacity of the skull and muscle for a comprehensive view of how everything works together.
Go to the web link below, and once there, click on “application”, then go to level II to check out some preset expressions.
Sometimes I like to imagine what this guy is thinking. I also like to call him Dave. He looks like a Dave or a Steve or something. He’s so expressive and obviously has a lot on his mind. “Effort” and “Scorn” are good ones. “Pleasure” is good too. He really looks quite pleased. Makes you wonder why Dave is looking down.
For fun, sometimes I create my own scenarios using expressions I make by mixing and combining some of the presets. See what "Dave" is up to today (see left).
