Open Field is words, photography, illustration, video, web links... whatever inspires us at any particular moment in time. Like a blog but... different. For those who prefer their creativity with a patina of dust, past entries are archived on the right.

From McSweeney's website:
"We at McSweeney's love newspapers. We love the internet, too. But we believe that print newspapers are an invaluable part of the journalistic landscape. So we've spent five moths collaborating with dozens of reporters, designers, photographers, and authors on a 21st-century newspaper prototype."
Four times each year, Dave Eggars and company publish McSweeney's, a thought-provoking collection of writing (fiction, non-fiction, poetry) and art (comics, illustration, fine art).
Each issue is unique - the content, the design and the format itself. Most issues could be considered to be hard cover books, but if you think you know what a hard cover book looks like, McSweeney's will destroy those preconceptions.
The latest issue, published in late 2009, isn't even in book format. It takes the shape of a Sunday newspaper called the San Francisco Panorama. A 320 page broadsheet newspaper, complete with a glossy magazine, a book review section, Sunday comics, travel, business, etc., etc.
It's everything a Sunday newspaper ought to be (or a Saturday newspaper, if you live in Canada) but isn't any more.
Great design, fantastic writing, beautiful photography and illustration by 150+ contributors, the names of many of whom you'll likely recognize: Roddy Doyle, Chip Kidd, Michael Chabon, Art Spiegelman, Daniel Clowes, Stephen King...
Check with your local book/magazine retailer to see if they still have it in stock. It's a work of art.
